Take a double look when you first lay your eyes on this truck, because the differences are very subtle, the Suzuki 2009 Equater exterior looks like a but mix of many trucks mainly the Toyota Tundra around the grill, but if you look near the front fenders you can see a hint Dodge R/T in there. Anyway, on to the looks, it actually looks pretty good for Suzuki's first real try, it's got that bulky look with a a shoved up grill with a huge chrome Suzuki sign. Riding pretty how high for fog lights gives a new different look. The 16" chrome rims with street tires takes away from the macho look of the truck and gives it a more street look, but the eye catching chrome rearview mirrors, and the red Suzuki emblem, stand out and gives it a unique look, also it sports one of the biggest pinstripes I've seen.
Now lets move on to the mechanics, The Extended Cab and Crew Cab will have the option of being equipped with a disappointing 152 horsepower which is just half of the horsepower that comes standard with Ford, Dodge, or Chevy, but for the one who is worried more about the sky rocketing gas prices, than power it will definetely be a advantage because it will probably get real good gas milage, there are no concrete evidence on this because Suzuki has not release any figures on the Miles per Gallon. Now for the real men out there you can get a four cylinder with a 261 hp 4.0 liter V-6 teamed to a five speed automatic or six speed manual transmission, this engine will bring it more into line with the other trucks on the market, but it will still be lacking. An automatic 5-speed or manuel transmission, and a shift-on-the-fly four wheel drive system are both available on either version. Suzuki is claiming that it will be able to tow 6500 pounds, but that has not yet been tested.
Safety features included anti-lock brakes and curtain airbags. Also very innovative Suzuki is a versatile channel system that allow the easy mounting of accessories--or in the Suzuki's case, securing the motorcycles and jet skis its owners already have. Suzuki is catering to the rich outdoor type of people looking for a good looking touch with class to haul their array of equipment. Now for the extras, it will come with Rockford Fosgate audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a moonroof.
Suzuki is going out on a limb and partnering with Nissan as reported by the TheCarConnection.com to build this new truck. It will be reportedly be built next to Nissan's mid-size truck the Frontier. It looks as though Suzuki is testing the water because this truck will not be sold anywhere else in the world, except for the in North America. This will be very interesting to see how this works out, two competitors working together to build trucks that will compete against each other being built at the same factory.
